Thanks to all who helped plan and organize my apostolic journey to Egypt.  My meeting with the Gran Imam, and my message to the International Conference for Peace, recalled that peace is the fruit of an education to wisdom and a humanism that respects our religious dimension.  Our covenant with God, grounded in the commandment of love of God and neighbor, inspires us to build a just and peaceful civil order with a role for everyone.  Egypt has a special role in this work of peacemaking.  In my meeting with the Coptic Orthodox Patriarch, we reaffirmed our commitment to unity and prayed for the victims of the recent attacks.  At Mass and in my meeting with priests, religious, and seminarians, I saw the beauty of the Church in Egypt and encouraged everyone to persevere in hope.  May the Holy Family bless and protect the people of Egypt with prosperity, fraternity, and peace.
Read
  • 1 Cor 15:1-8  I am reminding you of the Gospel I preached and you received; you're being saved as you hold fast.  I handed on what I received:  Christ died for our sins, was buried and raised, and appeared to Cephas, the Twelve, more than 500, James, all the Apostles, and me.
  • Ps 19:2-5  "Their message goes out through all the earth."  The heavens declare the glory of God...
  • Jn 14:6-14  “I am the way and the truth and the life....  If you know me, you'll know my Father.  Whoever has seen me has seen him.  I am in the Father and he in me.  Whoever believes in me will do the works I do.  And whatever you ask in my name, I'll do.”
Reflect
      • Creighton:  Am I like Philip, asking Jesus to show me the Father because I don't want to surrender to the Way, Truth and Life?  If I surrender, God will show me the way.  What can I be thankful for today?....
        SS. Philip and James/ Duccio
      • One Bread, One Body:  "Listen to the chosen ones":  Jesus selected James, Philip, and the other apostles at the start of his public ministry.  He also chose them to see him after he rose.  Jesus told them, "Whoever hears you hears me; whoever rejects you rejects me."  So we must pay attention to the their teaching.  Jesus doesn't like it when we refuse to listen to his witnesses, such as when we form an opinion and/or act contrary to their teaching....
      • DailyScripture.net:  "Lord, show us the Father":  Knowing God is the greatest thing we can aim for, and it brings joy, contentment, and happiness.  "Let not the wise glory in their wisdom, or the mighty in their might, or the rich glory in their riches; but glory in this, that you understand and know me."  We can know the living God personally by knowing Jesus, the revelation of God.  In Jesus we see God's perfect love; when we pray in his name, he promises the Father will hear our prayer....
      • Universalis:  SS. Philip and James, apostles:  Philip started as a disciple of John the Baptist.  James, a cousin of the Lord, led the Church at Jerusalem, wrote an epistle, lived austerely, converted many Jews, and was martyred.
