October 13

October 13, 2013:  28th Sunday, Ordinary Time

Readings
    Wordle: Readings 10-13-13
  • 2 Kgs 5:14-17  Naaman, after bathing in Jordan and being cleansed:  The Lord is God alone.
  • Ps 98:1-4  "The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power."  Sing a new song; Lord is kind and faithful.
  • 2 Tm 2:8-13  I bear suffering so others may be saved.  "If we have died with him, we'll live with him; if we persevere, we'll reign with him."  He remains faithful.
  • Lk 17:11-19  Ten lepers ask Jesus for pity, are cleansed; one returns to thank him.  "Where are the rest?  Your faith has saved you."
Music
Pope Francis

  • On women:  Sensitive to God, they help us understand God's mercy, tenderness, and love.  Motherhood includes relationships and respect of life.  Value them in building community; avoid false emancipation that abandons the feminine.  Servitude ≠ servanthood
  • On Mary:  She lovingly leads us to God who can untie/untangle our knotted hearts.  Her life was to follow Son, her faith a flame burning in the night.  She teaches us to live joy!
  • On incarnation:  Believing in Jesus means giving him our flesh with Mary's humility and courage, so he can continue to dwell in our midst.
  • Often our comfortable lives blind us to those dying around us. (tweet)

Daily reflections
  • Creighton:  Apostles will learn they're outcasts to be rejected.  We too were outsiders, alienated.  Living thanks vs. giving thanks.
  • RC.net:  Mercy = "sorrowful at heart," sharing suffering.  Aquinas:  mercy fulfills justice; justice without mercy is cruelty.  Grace = "release of loveliness."  Gratitude = heart's homage.  Do I recognize mercy shown me, thank God, show mercy to others?

Apparel
The river Jordan
