November 17

November 17, 2013:   33rd Sunday, Ordinary Time

    Wordle: Readings 11-17-13
  • Mal 3:19-20a  Day is coming when evildoers will be stubble, set on fire, but for you the sun of justice with its healing rays will arise.
  • Ps 98:5-9  "The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice."  Sing praise to God with harp, trumpets; he comes to rule with justice.
  • Lk 21:5-19   Don't be deceived and follow false messiahs.  Don't be terrified at the mighty signs.   You'll be persecuted, handed over, even by family and friends.  Testify; I'll give you wisdom your adversaries won't be able to refute.  All will hate you because of me, but by your perseverance you'll be safe.

  • Pope Francis Angelus:  Don't be taken in by false messiahs or be paralyzed by fear. Discern; witness and persevere in trials; don't move away from God.
  • Creighton:  The lawless wealthy may prosper now, but they and their possessions will be burned.  If we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall for anything.  Accept invitation to faith, working for justice.  What is most precious to me, centers me, holds me together?
  •  Jesus foretold signs, including destruction of Temple, pointing to judgment and mercy.  Pray for grace and mercy.  Respond to opposition as Jesus, with love and forgiveness; hope, witness, and endure as martyrs do.  You may be called to be a "dry martyr" witnessing daily.
