September 12

September 12, 2013: Thursday, 23rd week, Ordinary Time

Holy Name of Mary (optional memorial)

Readings
  • Col 3:12-17  Put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, love.  Bear with/forgive/teach/admonish one another,  Let Christ's peace control you, Christ's word dwell in you.  Be thankful.  Sing psalms, hymns, spiritual songs to God.  Do everything in the name of the Lord.
    Wordle: Readings 9-12-13
  • Ps 150:1b-6  "Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!"  Praise him for his deeds, majesty, with trumpet, lyre, harp, timbrel, dance, strings, pipe, cymbals.
  • Lk 6:27-38  Love, do good to your enemies.  Be merciful, as your Father is.  Do as you'd have others do to you.  Don't judge or condemn.  Forgive.  Give.  The measure with which you measure will be measured to you.

Paul gives the ultimate challenge to anyone writing or reading about "liturgical dress":  to dress with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love!

Now here's the superficial stuff...

Tie with electric guitars/basses, Keyboard suspenders:  Psalmist would have us praising with these instruments too if he'd known about them (psalm)

  • "Peace sign" pin: "Let the peace of Christ control your hearts" (1st reading)
  • Happy faces making up peace sign:  thankful people showing love, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, bearing with and forgiving one another, singing psalms, grateful to God (1st reading), praising the Lord (psalm), and loving enemies, doing good, praying, giving, receiving great reward/gifts, being forgiven, not judged/condemned (gospel)

  • Question mark tie pin: Jesus' three questions: If you {love those who love you, do good to those who do good to you, lend to those from whom you expect repayment}, what credit is that to you? (gospel)
  • Ruler tie bar: "The measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." (gospel)
  • Accordion tie pin:  surely the Psalmist would have included accordion too, especially since its bellows "breathe."  (psalm)

Special greetings and prayers to the community at
Holy Name of Mary Parish and School in San Dimas!
