September 8

September 8, 2013: 23rd Sunday, Ordinary Time

Readings
  • Ps 90:3-6, 12-17  "In every age, O Lord, you have been our refuge."  Centuries are as hours to you.  Teach us to grow in wisdom.  Have pity; fill us; prosper our work.
  • Phmn 9-10, 12-17  Old Paul returns Onesimus ["Useful"] to be beloved brother.  Welcome him.
  • Lk 14:25-33  Jesus:  “To be my disciple, 'hate' self and everyone else, carry your cross, come after me, count the cost, renounce possessions."

Music

Roamin' Catholic report
People sang, even though cantor was with the rest of the music ministry (good pianist, two other voices) behind altar.
Community was friendly with each other and with us "roamers," before and after Mass and during sign of peace.

  • "Clocks" tie:  "a thousand years in your sight are as yesterday ... or a watch of the night" (psalm)
  • Abacus tie pin: "calculate the cost" of discipleship (gospel); "teach us to number our days"(psalm) [BTW it works; see instructions for +, −, ×, and ÷!]
  • Crucifix: carry your cross (gospel)
