August 4

Aug. 4, 2013, 18th Sun., Ordinary Time

ECC 1:2; 2:21-23  "Vanity of Vanities"  What profit comes one who labors?  Sorrow and anxiety.

PS 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14, 17  If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.   1000 years to You are as yesterday.

COL 3:1-5, 9-11  Seek/think of what's above; put to death the earthly in you. Put on new/renewed self; Christ is all and in all.

LK 12:13-21  Guard against greed:  Be rich in what matters to God, not like man who built bigger barns then died.

Musical setting of psalm text:

Restless is the Heart, by Bernadette Farrell (audio)

  • Green:  color of money re riches and greed (gospel), "profit" (1st reading)
  • Transition from "complexity" to "simplicity":  transition from earthly to heavenly (2nd reading), from greed to riches in what matters to God (gospel).  (It's a stretch, but I use what I have. :-)
Heart tie pin:  "harden not your hearts" (psalm)
Finally, I enabled comments on this blog.  Feel free to contribute, especially to share a connection between your outfit and the Scriptures, celebration (e.g., Saint or feast), and/or liturgical season.  If you include a link to an image (and don't object in your comment), I'll try to incorporate your "dress" into a revised or new post and give you credit.  Thank you.
